Rattlesnakes, bulls and squirrels: Chase RCMP deal with litany of animal-related calls

KAMLOOPS — What do rattlesnakes, bulls and squirrels have in common? They were all the subject of complaints forwarded to the Chase RCMP detachment over the past few days.

In its latest blotter, the detachment says the first complaint came in on July 10.

A person had heard gossip that their neighbour liked to capture rattlesnakes and release the slithering creatures on their property.

Investigators spoke with the complainant and the neighbour, concluding there was no evidence to support the gossip.

A week later, on July 17, Chase RCMP were told of four unwanted bulls on a rural property. The bulls belonged to the complainant’s neighbour.

The complainant had attempted to fence the animals out to no effect. They told police the bulls were aggressive and were eating the complainant’s feed stock.

The neighbour was allegedly not helping relocate the bulls.

RCMP forwarded the issue to its Livestock Division.

Then on July 19, RCMP received the squirrel-based complaint from a Scotch Creek resident.

The caller in this case reported someone had released trapped squirrels onto his private property, the latest in a series of similar incidents. He said the rodents were causing chaos and damaging his property.

The complainant identified two suspects in a black pickup truck. Investigators looked into some video surveillance and were able to identify a suspect.

Mounties issued the suspect a verbal warning.
