KAMLOOPS — To the northeast of Kamloops, B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) crews are battling a pair of fires near Adams Lake. The Bush Creek East and Lower East Adams Lake wildfires are burning out of control on both flanks of the lake.

The Bush Creek wildfire is listed at 600 hectares as of Monday (July 24) afternoon. The wildfire is burning from south to north and no structures are threatened at this time.

“We do have ground personnel on scene today and they are continuing to work on objectives such as building guard,” said BCWS Fire Information Officer Melanie Bibeau. “They have been there for most of the week and will continuing to do that work throughout the rest of this week as well.”

An evacuation alert remains in place on the east side of the lake following a recommendation Sunday by B.C. Wildfire. Unfortunately for suppression efforts, the terrain and access have been challenging and deemed unsafe, as a result BCWS are unable to have ground personnel on this wildfire at this time.

“On the Lower East Adams Lake wildfire, it is currently estimated to be 2,000 hectares in size. This is a modified response wildfire, so it is typically just being monitored by aerial resources,” added Bibeau.
