TNRD issues evacuation alert for 360 properties south of Kamloops

UPDATE (2:05 p.m.) The wildfire has since increased to 350 hectares and is still out of control. B.C. Wildfire service say crews and air tankers will be heading over to the site of the wildfire this afternoon. Heavy equipment will be on site at the wildfires as well.

EARLIER (12:16 a.m.) KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Nicola Regional District has issued an evacuation alert for 360 properties due to the Ross Moore Lake wildfire burning south of Kamloops.

The Ross Moore Lake wildfire is listed as ‘Out of Control’ and burning about 20 km south of Kamloops. It’s currently listed at 95 hectares.

An Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), effective as of July 21, 2023 at 2300 pm, due to the Ross Moore Lake wildfire.

A current wildfire in Electoral Area “J” (Copper Desert Country) and Electoral Area “L” (Grasslands) poses a threat to life and property for approximately 360 addressed properties in the following areas:

• The areas South of Kamloops, East of Highway 5, West of Highway 5A, including Lac Le Jeune and the Knutsford community within the TNRD, as outlined in the attached map.

This Evacuation Alert is in place to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property, should it be found necessary. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an Evacuation Order; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

One property has also been placed on evacuation order.

Pursuant to Section 12 (1) of the Emergency Program Act, an Evacuation Order has been issued by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), effective July 21, 2023 at 2300 hrs, because of the potential danger to life and safety due to wildfire event.

An evacuation order is now in effect for approximately 1 addressed property in the following areas of Electoral Area “J” (Copper Desert Country):

• 5725 Long Lake Road, and as outlined in the attached map.
