KAMLOOPS — Thanks to a $100,000 donation from Kamloops Home Hardware, Thompson Rivers University carpentry students have a new ride to and from the job site.

Friday (July 21) afternoon, the trades school unveiled its new 2023 Mercedes Benz 4500 Cab Chassis.

“We are also getting a full outfit of tools from Milwaukee, so really excited about the commitment for training we are getting from the industry,” Tim Kasten, Carpentry instructor at TRU said. “I’m really proud to have a small part of this.”

According to TRU, the new vehicle will be used for students to participate in the training home built every year and given away as the Kamloops Y Dream Home.

Ryan Kurzac, owner of Kamloops Home Hardware, sees the donation as an investment in Kamloops’ future carpenters,

“For us, it’s all about community. The TRU carpentry program, we work side by side with all of the trade students running through that,” Kurzac said. “Some of the past students have become some of our largest customers today and throughout that whole process, we have gained some really good friends and it’s just a small way for us to give back.”
