KAMLOOPS – A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to benefit a Kamloops man and his family.

In a news release, RCMP said a 15-year-old girl was on a hike when she slipped on some rocks and fell into the Akolkolex Falls near Revelstoke.

Her stepfather, Ryan Fisher, dove in after her. When both failed to resurface, RCMP, paramedics, firefighters and search and rescue crews were called to the scene.

According to friends of Fisher, he suffered extensive injuries. His stepdaughter did not survive.

Bonnie Pryce and Gordan Leary have organized a GoFundMe campaign to help Ryan through his recovery.

“He’d give you the shirt off his back in a snowstorm and not think twice about it,” Pryce told CFJC News, describing Fisher.

Pryce and Leary said the only thing Fisher was more passionate about than photography was his daughters and no one was surprised to hear he had risked his own life to save a family member.

“He would be the first one jumping. If there was a group of ten, he would be in front of the crowd. Ryan isn’t a public person when it comes to himself but when it comes to people-on-people and stuff,” Leary said. “He tries to be all burly and gruff but he’s got the biggest heart you’ll ever meet.”

His stepdaughter who fell into the falls did not survive. Ryan was spotted by search and rescue crews and taken to the hospital for treatment.
