Wildfire west of Adams Lake measured at 165 hectares, growing at ‘moderate to fast rate’
KAMLOOPS — A wildfire west of Adams Lake grew significantly on Sunday (July 16) and is not responding to suppression efforts from firefighters.
The BC Wildfire Service’s (BCWS) online dashboard lists the out-of-control Bush Creek East wildfire at 165 hectares as of late Sunday afternoon. The fire nearly 23 kilometres northwest of the Village of Chase, west of Adams Lake, is suspected to be caused by lightning.
The Bush Creek East wildfire was initially discovered Wednesday (July 12) evening and is now described to be showing Rank 4 fire behaviour, meaning it’s burning at a moderate to fast rate on the ground. The BCWS says the fire has had more direct sunlight due to smoky skies in the area clearing. Temperatures have also increased, and winds are gusting between 40 to 50 km/h.
“The increase in activity has made this incident highly visible to the community of Barriere and surrounding areas,” the BCWS states. “This wildfire is currently burning from south to north and no values are immediately threatened at this time.”
