Wildfire smoke: Public safety bulletin issued after child’s death
KAMLOOPS — After the recent death of a nine-year-old was determined to be related to wildfire smoke, the BC Coroners Service issued a public safety bulletin warning residents about the risks associated with wildfire smoke.
In a news release, the Coroners Service advised people to reduce their exposure to smoke by staying indoors, keeping windows closed and visiting places with air conditioning. British Columbians are also encouraged to sign up to be automatically notified of air-quality warnings via an air-quality subscription service.
“As the province experiences greater impacts from the effects of climate change, British Columbians are learning more about the risks associated with wildfire smoke, extreme heat and other environmental factors. This greater awareness can help us respond when risks are identified,” the Coroners Service said in the news release.
