KAMLOOPS — In just over one week, the annual Farm2Chefs grazing event will fill up the garden at Privato Winery with some tasty treats and delectable delicacies, all made from locally produced food.

“The event is all about showcasing local chefs, local wineries, local breweries, local cideries, and different crafts and artisans in the local food community,” Farm2Chefs President Jared Summers explains.

While the grazing event has been held at a variety of locations through the years, Farm2Chefs likes to bring the people to the producers.

“This is the 11th year we’ve run this event, and we try to move it around a little bit,” Summers tells CFJC Today. “Expose different farms and wineries, things like that. We really want to get close to where the food is produced or where the grapes are grown, and the apples are grown.”

Last year, Farm2Chefs raised $10,000 for the PITStop meal program at the Kamloops United Church. This year, they’ll be raising funds for the Education and Skills Training Program (ESTR) at TRU which teaches employment skills to students who face barriers to employment.

“They’re in really desperate need of some upgrading with their equipment and facilities and resources,” Summers says. “We decided that would be a great opportunity for us to fundraise for them and help them get some equipment in and upgrade what their options are because the students really benefit from that.”

There are still some tickets available for the grazing event, and Farm2Chefs is working on a raffle for one of their big prizes this year, to help bring in even more fundraising dollars.

“One of the big draws, as far as fundraising, is a private chef’s dinner that we do every year,” Summers says. “We have five chefs from the area that come together and create a multi-course dinner for up to 16 people. What we’re hoping to do is do a raffle this year, as opposed to having it as a silent auction item, which will help raise more funds and make it more accessible for people to be able to purchase.”
