Kamloops RCMP officer injured while taking drunk woman into custody
KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops RCMP officer was assaulted after responding to a 9-1-1 call in Barnhartvale earlier this week.
Detachment spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says officers went to a home on Morris Place at about 5:40 p.m. on Monday (July 10) after the dispatch centre received a 9-1-1 call that was abandoned.
“At the residence, officers were advised there was an intoxicated woman inside, who had been running around naked outside, and was possibly experiencing a mental health crisis,” said Evelyn.
As the Mounties were trying to speak to the woman, it’s alleged she assaulted them. One of the officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries as the woman was being placed under arrest. Police say her belligerence continued on the trip back to the detachment.
