KAMLOOPS — Numerous chambers of commerce from the Thompson, Okanagan and Shuswap regions met in Kamloops Wednesday (July 12) to address the local labour market gap.

A news release by the Kamloops and District Chamber of Commerce notes a survey from the BC Chamber of Commerce shows 29 per cent of respondents in the Thompson-Okanagan region indicated they were unemployed and actively seeking a job. The provincial survey was held between Feb. 7 and March 3, 2023, and received responses from 249 job seekers and 132 employers.

According to the report, employers and job seekers in the Thompson-Okanagan had different priorities when it came to job incentives. While employers focused their job postings on work environment and comprehensive benefits, job seekers valued work-life balance and salary.
