KAMLOOPS — A bottle drive will be held in memory of Kamloops’ late “Can Man.”

John Brennan, the older brother of Wayne Brennan, says the General Grant’s North Shore Recycling Centre on 611 Fortune Dr. will set up an account to take empty drinking containers in Wayne’s memory from July 21 to 23. Proceeds will go to the Kamloops Food Banks.

For over 20 years, Wayne woke up at the crack of dawn, hopped on the bus and scoured the city for empty cans. He collected cans as an effort to supplement his disability cheque, and he would use the money to make someone special smile.

Wayne passed away two years ago.

“If we had a world full of Wayne’s we’d be better off,” John told CFJC Today. “Wayne was a terrific kid all his life. He was always happy, carefree and would do anything for anybody… I decided on my own that I better do something for him. He was a goer, he never quit moving and he worked hard.”

John hopes to make the bottle drive in Wayne’s memory an annual tradition, having it at the end of June every year.
