Fourth permanent bridge opens on Coquihalla Highway

KAMLOOPS — After extreme damage caused by rain and flooding back in 2021, Coquihalla highway opens the new southbound Juliet Bridge, 55 kilometres south of Merritt, as part of the reconstruction project.
In a news release, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says the project counts with a total of six permanent bridges. The remaining two bridges are expected to be completed later this year.
“Making sure there are reliable, climate-resilient roads and bridges for residents, industry and emergency services will keep British Columbians and their supply chains safer and more connected during extreme weather,” said Rob Fleming, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.
The Coquihalla was closed to regular vehicle traffic on November 14, 2021, due to damage caused by extreme rain and flooding. More than twenty sites between Hope and Merritt were damaged. Workers were able to get the Coquihalla re-opened in thirty-five days.
