Second suspicious package in Aberdeen confirmed to be a pipe bomb: RCMP

KAMLOOPS — The second suspicious package found in Aberdeen in as many days was also found to be explosive.

In a news release issued Thursday (July 6) morning, Kamloops RCMP say the package found in the 2100-block of Sifton Avenue Tuesday night was confirmed to be a pipe bomb. It comes after RCMP removed another pipe bomb a few blocks away in the 900-block of Greystone Crescent.

Cpl. Crystal Evelyn states it’s possible the pipe bombs could be related due to the similarities in both scenes.

“In both of these occurrences, the suspicious packages were reported to police quickly and they were safely removed without any injuries occurring to the general public, but the risk was certainly present and is being treated very seriously,” Evelyn says. “If you see something that looks out of place near your house or while you’re walking, please reach out to police for further investigation, especially considering these recent reports.”

Like the scene at Greystone Crescent, RCMP closed a portion of Sifton Avenue until the pipe bomb could be examined and removed. Police say there were no evacuations.

The Kamloops RCMP detachment and its partners are questioning neighbours, collecting and examining evidence and reviewing video footage from the area.

Anyone with information that may be related to the investigations is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP.
