Semi rollover closes Highway 5A in Upper Nicola

UPDATE (9 a.m.): DriveBC says Highway 5A is open to single-lane alternating traffic. Drivers are told to expect minor delays.

EARLIER: MERRITT, B.C. — Drivers travelling between Kamloops and Merritt Wednesday (July 5) morning are encouraged to take the Coquihalla Highway instead of Highway 5A.

In a post to social media, Yellowhead Road and Bridge Nicola, the Nicola Service Area’s road maintenance contractor, says a semi rollover in Upper Nicola has closed Highway 5A in both directions.

DriveBC reported the incident between the Highway 97C junction and Monck Park Road – nearly six kilometres north of Merritt – at around 7 a.m. Wednesday. Another update is due at 10 a.m.
