CSRD says province not allowing it to conduct mosquito control in Tsútswecw Provincial Park

KAMLOOPS — The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) says it will not be able to carry out a widespread mosquito control program in the Scotch Creek and Lee Creek areas.

According to a CSRD news release, the provincial body BC Parks has denied mosquito control programs in Tsútswecw Provincial Park, formerly Roderick Haig-Brown Park. The CSRD explained the park has a “significant area of mosquito-breeding habitat and without region-wide treatment, mosquito control programs become less effective.”

The CSRD is still permitted to conduct mosquito larvicide treatments on lands within the service area of Electoral Area ‘F’, as well as Little Shuswap Lake Band and BC Parks, such as Shuswap Lake Park.

This year, treatments started back in May and numerous sites are treated, including multiple locations in the 2000-block of Squilax-Anglemont Road in Lee Creek.
