Riverside Park filled with Kamloopsians to celebrate Canada Day
KAMLOOPS — On Saturday (July 1), Canada turns 156 years old. Residents in the Kamloops area celebrated by gathering at Riverside Park to enjoy the festivities put on by the Kamloops Multicultural Society.
“A lot of planning went into it for this year,” President of the Multicultural Society Ray Dhaliwal told CFJC Today. “It started back in January and our event coordinators did a fantastic job this year.”
The family-friendly event allows people tune into music being played at the Rotary Bandshell and to choose food of their choice whether it’s filipino or mexican. Art in the Park was also apart of the Canada Day festivities thanks to the help of the Kamloops Art Council.
Speeches took place by various individuals, including Lieutenant Colonel Amadeo Vecchio who says Canadians should be grateful to live in a beautiful country. “I just recently returned from helping a sovereign nation in Eastern Europe and I can tell you that we should be grateful every day how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful nation free and with all its benefits.”
