KAMLOOPS – Celebrating the Great White North starts early this year, with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. at Riverside Park.

Following some flapjacks, the City of Kamloops will be hosting a variety of attractions at Riverside Park, including musical performances, artisans and for the first time since 2019, fireworks.

Once again, the city has partnered with the multicultural society, to showcase the many different cultures present in Kamloops, and that’s what Canada Day is all about, according to Janvi Desai, community events coordinator for the City of Kamloops.

“Canada, I think represents the diversity that we have in forms that we have in different types, different cultures involved,” Desai told CFJC News.

“This is mainly a folk fest so it involves all these different cultures and celebrates that diversity on Canada Day.”

This will also be the time a chief of T’kemlups partakes in the city’s Canada Day celebration, Kukpi7 Rosanne Casimir is scheduled to attend.

The grand finale of the day is scheduled for dusk, weather permitting.

“The permit was approved conditional on the fire weather. If indices were too high if things were too hot and too dry and there could still be weather conditions like high winds that it could be cancelled” Captain Jamie Chase, KFR Life Safety Educator said.

Chase said as of right now, the conditions are looking good and the fireworks will most likely go ahead.

However, that doesn’t mean you should try this at home.

“The fact that this display is being done by a professional company is a factor as well. We know it’s going to be done properly and safely in a safe location,” Chase said.

“So it’s not like if permits were being issued to just anyone to have fireworks in their back yard, this is being done to a much higher level of execution.”
