Pair of Blazers taken late, Kamloops local selected by the Canucks in 2023 NHL Draft

KAMLOOPS — A pair of Kamloops Blazers were taken late in the 2023 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft.

In the seventh round, the Detroit Red Wings selected Emmitt Finnie – a 2005-born center – 201^st overall while the Winnipeg Jets selected Connor Levis – a 2004-born forward – 210^th overall.

Finnie scored 35 points (nine goals and 26 assists) in 64 games with the Blazers during the 2022-23 Western Hockey League (WHL) season while Levis finished fifth in Blazers scoring with 67 points (27 goals and 40 assists) in 68 games.

Elsewhere, A Kamloops native was selected by B.C.’s NHL team.

Sawyer Mynio, a 2005-born defenceman with the Seattle Thunderbirds, was selected 89^th overall in the third round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks.

Mynio scored 31 points (five goals and 26 assists) in 68 games with the Thunderbirds in the 2022-23 WHL season. He added four points (one goal and three assists) in 19 playoff games en route to the Thunderbirds’ WHL championship victory.
