SUN PEAKS, BC — Just because the snow is long gone doesn’t mean Sun Peaks stops being a destination for tourists from near and far.

“It’s definitely changed,’ Aaron Macdonald, Director of Marketing for the resort tells CFJC Today. “Summer’s – we’re hoping to get to as big [a season] as winter, for sure. You can go take five or six laps up there and then hit the amazing golf course, which I think is the highest [elevation] in BC, right now.”

This weekend should be bumpin’ at the mountain. There will be live music throughout the resort on Canada Day, as well as all the usual activities.

“We are super excited to host Canada Day. We have one of our biggest days of the season coming right up,” Theresa St. Louis, Events Manager for Tourism Sun Peaks explains. “We have daily entertainment from 11:00 until 5:00, right in the village, and then finish the evening with two different sets of live music. We have Maritime Kitchen Party on the Village Stage and Soul Patch on the Clocktower Stage.”

According to the resort’s new marketing director, they’re expecting almost five times the regular population of the resort municipality to show up for the Canada Day celebration.

“We’re expecting over 6,000 people to come up this weekend over the course of four days,” Macdonald says. “Everything from events to hiking to mountain biking to golfing. And then our new disc golf course up there, of course. There’s just so much for everyone to do.”

If you don’t make it up to the Village for Canada Day, there are tons of other events you can catch throughout the summer.

“Sunday is market day, it’s 9:30 to 1:30, and we have a variety of vendors,” St. Louis says. “Lots of different entertainment throughout the season here, as well. We have First Fridays, which is a big activation for us. So the first Friday of each of the months – July, August and September – we have an evening market, entertainment. Just a great opportunity to pop up for the locals from the Kamloops area.”

And if you’re looking for somewhere easy to pull your trailer for a night, you can camp it in the designated parking lots for a reasonable price.

“It’s like $25 a night,” Macdonald says. “You can stay for the night and enjoy all this.”
