KAMLOOPS — The United Way’s Period Promise campaign nets more than 28,000 products from the Kamloops and Thompson Nicola Cariboo region.

The number surpasses last year’s total of 26,000 products, and with donations still rolling in, the United Way could still reach their goal of 40,000. Along with the product donations, the campaign also raised $3,661 in monetary donations.

In total across the province, United Way BC received over 500,000 menstrual products and just over $54,000 in monetary funds.

“In the coming weeks, the donated menstrual products will be distributed to frontline non-profit agencies and United Way Food Hubs across the regions United Way BC serves. Thanks to the collective efforts of organizations, communities, and individuals across the province, more British Columbians experiencing period poverty will have improved access to life-essential menstrual products in their communities,” reads a press release from the United Way.

“I would just like to highlight all the incredible support we received from local businesses this year. We had more workplaces than ever step up to support the campaign, either internally or externally as one of our public-facing drop-off spots,” said Chelsea Ingram, Campaign Manager, Thomspon Nicola Cariboo Region, United Way BC. “Our goal is to obviously collect products, but it is also to spread awareness and work towards breaking the stigma around menstruation and period poverty, and I wholeheartedly believe we are doing that here in our community. Thank you to everyone who donated, shared our stories through social media, came to one of our booths to ask about what we were doing, and was brave enough to open the door to let change in.”
