KAMLOOPS — The only wildfire categorized as Out of Control in the Kamloops Fire Centre, is the Murtle Lake wildfire in Wells Gray Park, west of Blue River.

The fire has burned nearly 13 hundred hectares since it was first discovered May 21.

The BC Wildfire Service says the cooler wet weather has reduced fire behaviour. It is using a modified response to battle the fire, which is posing no threats to homes or infrastructure in the area.

BC Parks has reopened the popular lake for recreational activity, although it warns smoky conditions remain. In the interest of public safety, BC Parks proactively closed the Murtle Lake area last week.
