KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops icon is being recognized for his career of excellence in the field of broadcasting.

RTDNA Canada announced its 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients Thursday (June 15). Its only West Region honoree is CFJC lead news anchor and producer Bill O’Donovan.

After graduating from Cariboo College with his Communications Media diploma in 1976, O’Donovan began his career at CJDC in Dawson Creek. From there, his career took him to Williams Lake and Penticton before a stint with the CFJC Kamloops beginning in 1979.

In 1986, he moved his family to Regina, where he spent 13 years in the sports department and a couple of years as news anchor. He came back to Kamloops in 2001 for CFJC’s lead anchor position.

The RTDNA noted O’Donovan has mentored countless young journalists throughout his career, instilling them with principles of accuracy and fairness that have helped make CFJC’s newsroom a model of journalistic integrity.

O’Donovan joins CFJC’s Doug Collins, Earl Seitz and Dave Barry as lifetime achievement award recipients.
