Weekend rain helps to cool wildfire threat in Kamloops Fire Centre
KAMLOOPS — A rainy Saturday in the Kamloops region has helped to reduce the wildfire danger rating in the Kamloops Fire Centre.
According to Environment Canada data, a trace of rain fell at the weather office’s measuring station at the Kamloops Airport Friday and 6.2 mm fell Saturday.
Although it wasn’t much, the figures represented the first measurable rainfall in Kamloops since May 24th.
After the widespread rainstorm passed through the region over the weekend, the BC Wildfire Service fire danger rating dropped. The rating is predominantly low to moderate across the Kamloops Fire Centre as of Monday (Jun. 12) morning. However, there are still some small pockets where the danger rating is high, including in the Merritt area.
