Serious vehicle accident closes Highway 1 in Valleyview

UPDATE (7:30 a.m.): DriveBC says the Trans Canada Highway in Valleyview has fully reopened.

UPDATE (7 a.m.): DriveBC says a vehicle recovery is underway on the Trans Canada Highway in Valleyview, and the eastbound lanes are expected to reopen at 8 a.m.

UPDATE (5 a.m.): Traffic has resumed in the westbound lanes of the Trans Canada Highway in Valleyview.

However, DriveBC says the eastbound lanes remain closed. A detour is in effect via Highland Road and Oriole Road.

EARLIER: KAMLOOPS — Highway 1 in Valleyview remains closed in both directions Monday (June 5) morning due to a serious vehicle collision.

In a news release early Monday morning, Kamloops RCMP say they were called to Trans Canada Highway East and Highland Road at around 12:30 a.m. where a semi-truck and a sedan collided.

S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says three people have been sent to hospital, one of them with significant injuries. She adds the cause of the collision is under investigation.

Traffic is being diverted off the Trans Canada Highway at Oriole Road from the west and Highland Road from the east, onto either Frontage Road or Valleyview Drive.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible. DriveBC says another update is due at 5 a.m. Monday.
