Village of Cache Creek lifts most evacuation alerts for properties

Wendy Coomber, Cache Creek emergency operations centre information officer, says two or three properties have red tags – meaning they need extensive work before they can be habitable again – and all units at 1055 Old Cariboo Rd. remain under evacuation alert, except for one that’s under evacuation order.

A high streamflow advisory remains in effect for the Bonaparte River as of Tuesday morning.

“Stay away — 10 feet back if you can,” Coomber says. “The water is still quite high and running very quickly for this time of year. That’s not expected to go away before fall.”

For drivers planning to travel to or through Cache Creek, Coomber says traffic is flowing freely along Highways 1 and 97 through the village, although a few potholes are starting to emerge.

“There are a couple of rough patches by the culverts that people should watch for, and go slowly,” she says. “We expect [crews] back sometime this week to do a more permanent fix. There could be delays at that time.”
