KAMLOOPS — The threat of flooding continues to ease in the Kamloops area.

In an update issued Monday (May 29) morning, the BC River Forecast Centre downgraded the South Thompson River from a flood watch stage to a high streamflow advisory.

Additionally, the forecast centre ended high streamflow advisories for the tributaries of the South Thompson River (including Salmon River, Eagle River, Adams River and surrounding areas), Shuswap River and Thompson River downstream of Kamloops Lake.

However, the Bonaparte River remains on high streamflow advisory as river levels remain high after rainfall runoff last week.

“On the South Thompson River, levels have reached peak levels, but have yet to experience a declining trend,” the forecast centre states. “Levels are expected to remain high over the coming days before receding, and no significant additional river rises are expected at this time.”

In the meantime, residents are asked to stay clear of fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks, along with avoiding swimming, boating, hiking or fishing near high streamflow rivers or streams.

The province’s next snow conditions and water supply bulletin is scheduled to be released on June 8.
