Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Nicola and South Thompson region

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE (1:46 P.M.): The severe thunderstorm watch has ended for the South Thompson region. The Nicola region however, remains on the weather alert.

EARLIER: The sunshine that’s been on display for the last few days across the Southern Interior could be interrupted by a heavy thunderstorm Saturday afternoon (May 27).

According to Environment Canada, the main hazard will be slow moving thunderstorms which can produce heavy rain upwards of 15 to 20 mm per hour. Strong wind gusts up to 40 km per hour could also follow along with the heavy precipitation later this afternoon.

Weather conditions throughout the Southern Interior are expected to improve later tonight and into tomorrow as well with a mix of sun and cloud in the forecast.
