Skeetchestn Community School student receives $70,000 scholarship for community leadership
CACHE CREEK, B.C. — An Indigenous student from Skeetchestn Community School has received a $70,000 scholarship.
In a news release, TD Bank Group (TD) announced Da’von Ekering was one of 20 recipients of its Scholarships for Community Leadership.
Ekering and his classmates proposed and fundraised for a future youth centre and emergency shelter with support from the 3% Project – a national environmental group. Ekering also founded the Skeetchestn Art Club Collective to explore his artistic talents while teaching and mentoring others.
Each year, 20 scholarships are awarded to students in their last year of high school or have a value of up to $70,000, including up to $10,000 for tuition and $7,500 for living expenses per year for a maximum of four years. The scholarships go to students who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community leadership.
