Two people arrested after violent altercation halts traffic in Williams Lake

UPDATE (10 a.m.): Williams Lake RCMP say the two people, an adult man and woman, remain in custody pending a court appearance.

Police say the violent altercation took place at a motel on Seventh Avenue where a person was reportedly stabbed multiple times.

Officers arrived and identified two possible suspects then went to a home on Second Avenue where it was believed the pair fled to following the stabbing.

The victim was taken to hospital by Emergency Health Services. Police say he is in stable condition and is expected to recover.

EARLIER: WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Williams Lake RCMP say they arrested two people in connection with a violent altercation that happened in the city Wednesday (May 17) afternoon.

In an initial news release, police say the altercation that took place shortly before 5 p.m. was serious enough for them to block off all traffic to Second Avenue, Pine Street, Mackenzie Avenue and Boundary Road. In a followup release at around 9:45 p.m., police said traffic reopened.

RCMP believe the people involved in the ongoing investigation are known to one another. Police do not believe there to be any further risk to the public.
