Kamloops loses 13 lives in April due to toxic drug supply
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops saw a staggering number of deaths due to the use of illicit drugs in April.
According to the latest preliminary data by the BC Coroners Service, 206 people died province-wide in April 2023, with 13 of them in Kamloops.
Kamloops lost 31 lives in the first four months of 2023 and is on pace to slightly surpass the record 92 fatalities in 2022.
Within the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap health service delivery area, 51 deaths have been reported over the first four months of 2023 for a rate of 61.3 per 100,000 people. Interior Health recorded 120 deaths during that time.
