KAMLOOPS — RCMP in Kamloops have arrested a suspect after a rash of vehicles were damaged at a pair of commercial locations in the city.

In a news release issued Thursday, detachment spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says members were called to a commercial location on the 600-block of Notre Dame Drive at about 6:38 a.m. Sunday (May 14), after a security guard reported seeing a suspect damage a new vehicle. The commercial location is believed to be Zimmer Wheaton GMC Buick. The security guard provided a description and location for officers, who arrested a man not far away.

“As part of the investigation, it was discovered the suspect was also wanted on an unendorsed warrant for assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats,” said Evelyn. “The suspect remains in custody for the warrants, while officers continue to work on the charge recommendation process for assessment and consideration.”

This is not the first instance of vandalism to vehicles at this location. Evelyn says police noted 12 damaged vehicles on Saturday and another 19 last Wednesday (May 10). Investigators are working to determine if those reports are connected to the one from Sunday.

Police are also looking into eight vehicles damaged in the 1000-block of Eighth Street on the North Shore. An image of a suspect in that investigation has been released, and RCMP are not certain that incident is related to those at Zimmer Wheaton.

Business owners are encouraged to check security footage for further clues and to guard against vandalism by safeguarding their properties.
