CACHE CREEK, B.C. — UPDATE: Evacuation orders affecting about 150 residents have been lifted Monday afternoon (May 15).

EARLIER: Evacuation orders persist in Cache Creek, but the community’s mayor says the flood situation is easing.
“Cache Creek itself has gone down an awful lot. I think most of the snow up there is melted,” John Ranta told CFJC Today Monday (May 15). “The Bonaparte is headed in the right direction now, so that’s good. Hopefully, the cool evenings have moderated the snowmelt in the north of us.”
Ranta says mobile home parks along the Bonaparte River remain evacuated, but he notes, even with sunshine and heat predicted for the rest of the week, the snowpack supply is starting to wane.
“It’s going down quite a bit, apparently. The amount of water that’s going down the river that has resulted in several evacuation orders is moderating, to a certain extent,” he said.
Repairing flood damage to infrastructure remains a work in progress and the entire community remains under a boil water advisory while crews work on the affected pipes.
“We’ve got a temporary fix in place for the water main that feeds the south end of the community,” said Ranta. “Hopefully, they’ll be able to effect permanent repairs, but the location of the water main break is challenging.”
