Kamloops, along other interior communities under special weather advisory, following out-of-season heat
KAMLOOPS — The BC Interior is in the grip of an unseasonable heatwave, with soaring temperatures forecasted to continue into early next week. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement, highlighting the potential hazards and urging residents to take necessary precautions.
The current weather pattern is expected to last from now through Tuesday, bringing daytime highs to the central and southern interior, ranging from the low to mid-30s Celsius. In the northern regions, temperatures are anticipated to reach the mid to high 20s. Overnight and early morning lows will remain in the low to mid-teens.
As a result of the rising temperatures, freezing levels will increase, leading to accelerated snowpack melting. This, in turn, raises the possibility of localized flooding due to high stream flow levels. Individuals living in flood-prone areas should remain vigilant and stay updated on the latest alerts and advisories. The North Thompson river is currently under high streamflow advisory.
The extreme heat poses a significant risk of heat-related illnesses, emphasizing the need for residents to take necessary precautions. It is crucial to stay hydrated, seek shade or air-conditioned environments whenever possible, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
