KAMLOOPS — As the wildfires continue to burn throughout parts of Western Canada, smoke is moving into the Kamloops and Cariboo regions as a result.

The smoke is being produced by fires burning in northeastern B.C. and northern Alberta. According to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) there are 8 wildfires burning out of control in the northeast. The Alberta Wildfire Service is reporting 21 out-of-control wildfires from west-central Alberta north to the province’s northern boundary.

At this point, residents shouldn’t expect to deal with choking smoke conditions as in years past. The Kamloops and Cariboo regions are facing a low risk in air quality. Prince George’s air quality condition is moderate according to BC Air Quality.

The BCWS suggests residents who feel they are being impacted by smoke, should look to find indoor environments such as shopping malls or libraries and to stay hydrated in order to help the body deal with inflammation.
