Proposed community policing committee to be debated by Kamloops Council Tuesday
KAMLOOPS — City Council to debate the creation of new Community Policing Select Committee on Tuesday (May 9).
The motion comes from councillor Katie Neustaeter who raised the proposal as a notice of motion at the most recent meeting. The proposal returns to the table tomorrow for a full debate and vote.
In her reasoning for moving the motion, Neustaeter states, community safety is of the highest priority for a Municipal Council and the residents of the City of Kamloops and its surrounding communities.
“That for the protection and enhancement of the well-being of the community and our current challenges with escalating criminal behaviour, that Council authorize the formation of a new Community Policing Select Committee, for the purposes of developing and recommending solutions for deterring social disorder and supporting those providing enforcement,” reads the official motion.
