The event aims to educate the public on the crucial work these individuals do for their communities, often in unexpected ways. It also marked the opening event of Emergency Preparedness Week, which comes at a particularly appropriate time, with many BC communities on flood watch and wildfire season just around the corner.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Chief Ken Uzeloc explained what emergency week is meant to achieve.

“Preparedness week is that week to reinforce with people the need to be prepared for various emergencies. It’s about making sure you and your family are prepared.” Uzeloc explains.

Emergency service members expressed gratitude for the outpouring of community support during the event. Despite the challenges they face on a daily basis, they remain committed to helping others in need.

The Emergency Services Day celebration serves as a reminder of the critical role emergency services personnel play in keeping communities safe.
