CACHE CREEK, B.C. — Highways 1 and 97 at the centre of the Village of Cache Creek have partially reopened.

DriveBC announced at around 8 p.m. Thursday (May 4) that both stretches of roadway in Cache Creek are open to single-lane alternating traffic with a pilot vehicle after a two-day closure due to flooding. B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said Highway 97 through the village of will need repairs once flood waters recede.

In a public safety notice Thursday night, Wendy Coomber, information officer for the Cache Creek Emergency Operations Centre, says village staff continue to work on the Quartz Road culvert, which is not flowing properly.

Residents are also asked to stay away from the Todd Road Bridge as it is unpassable and unsafe. Coomber says BC Wildfire Service crews will continue sandbagging Friday.

Additionally, the village says BC Hydro crews hope to restore power for the 30 customers who have been out due to the flooding. The local elementary school will remain closed Friday.

As of Thursday night, 21 properties have been evacuated due to the Cache Creek flooding, with 11 of them on evacuation order. The village says the RCMP and private security are monitoring the evacuated properties.

A flood warning remains in effect for the Lower Thompson region, including Cache Creek.
