KAMLOOPS — The property that houses the Merit Place emergency homeless shelter is slated for redevelopment.

In a Development Permit Application (DPA) coming to council Tuesday (May 9), the numbered company that owns the former Greyhound depot on Notre Dame Drive is asking to transform the site into a car wash.

Last month, B.C. Housing announced a lease extension for the shelter until 2025. The owner’s car wash plans would take effect after the lease expires.

A single-tunnel car wash would be built on the east side of the property closest to the Laval Crescent entrance, while the west side of the property would be available for additional development.
