WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — One of two notable wildfires burning in the Cariboo Fire Centre is now being held.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) announced at around 5:30 p.m. Monday (May 1) that the Lost Valley wildfire east of 70 Mile House is no longer a wildfire of note. There has been no additional growth to its 113 hectares in size.

Additionally, the Thompson Nicola Regional District also announced it lifted its evacuation alert for 27 properties in Electoral Area “E” (Bonaparte Plateau) in response to the Lost Valley wildfire.

However, further north, the Dripping Water wildfire near Alexis Creek west of Williams Lake is still out of control. As of Tuesday morning, the BCWS dashboard lists the fire at 209 hectares in size.

While the Cariboo Regional District lifted its evacuation alert for properties in the area due to the Dripping Water wildfire, an alert remains in effect for the nearby Tl’etinqox-t’in Government.

Guidelines on what to do in an evacuation are available online.

Both the Lost Valley and Dripping Water wildfires are suspected to be human caused.
