Blazers’ Zellweger named WHL Player of the Month for April
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Blazers’ defenceman Olen Zellweger has been named the Western Hockey League Player of the Month for April.
Zellweger led the Blazers to consecutive sweeps of Vancouver and Portland in the first two rounds of the playoffs. The Western Conference Final started a little rockier for Kamloops, with two road losses in Seattle.
An Anaheim Ducks prospect, Zellweger registered 21 points (nine goals, 12 assists) to lead all skaters in April. His month included a seven-point effort on April 20 in Portland, tying a WHL playoff record for defencemen.
Seattle goaltender Thomas Milic was named Goaltender of the Month, while Regina Pats forward Alexander Suzdalev was given Rookie of the Month honours.
