KAMLOOPS ā€” The Lost Valley Wildfire northeast of Pressy Lake has signalled the start of another wildfire season in the region.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), issued an Evacuation Alert around the wildfire Saturday (Apr. 29) evening.

The wildfire is located approximately 30 km northeast of 70 Mile House. The northern edge of the Evacuation Alert is bordered by North Bonaparte Road. As of Saturday night, the BC Wildfire Service measured the fire at 40 hectares. Air and ground resources are being employed to fight the blaze which was spotted just before noon Saturday. The cause is under investigation.

Officials say the wildfire is posing a threat to 27 properties in Electoral Area ā€œEā€ (Bonaparte Plateau). The Evacuation Alert is in place to prepare residents to evacuate their premises or property. The EOC will provide as much advance notice as possible prior to an Evacuation Order.

  • Pack essential items such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g. insurance, credit, and mortgage information), immediate care needs for dependents or pets, and, if time and space permits, keepsakes for quick departure.
  • Make arrangements to stay with family or friends (if possible).
  • Prepare to move disabled persons, children and/or neighbours, if assistance is needed.
  • Prepare to take pets with you and move livestock to a safe area, if possible
  • Arrange transportation for all your household and fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles
  • Arrange accommodation for all members of the residence, if possible
  • Monitor for information on a potential Evacuation Order and location of Reception Centres.
