HYÈRES, France — Canadian Olympian Sarah Douglas won gold in ICLA 6 at the French Olympic Week sailing competition on Saturday.

Douglas earned 74 points to beat Tokyo 2020 and 2022 world championship gold medallist Anne-Marie Rindom of Denmark by one point.

It’s the second time Douglas has won a major international event in the last year.

Douglas earned first place at the Sailing World Cup in April 2022 — part of the Princess Sofia Trophy in Spain.

The 29-year-old from Toronto represented Canada at the 2020 Tokyo Games, where she finished sixth. It was the best result by a Canadian woman in an individual sailing event.

Douglas has qualified to be nominated for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, and this year’s world championship, events that serve as quota spot qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Games.

“I’m super happy to come away with the win in Hyères,” said Douglas in a press release. “I came to France with specific goals in mind and I’m happy that I was able to achieve them. To step on the podium is the cherry on top.

“I kept with the plan, kept cool and kept pushing until the very end to walk away with the gold medal.”
