With Kamloops obstetrical services in doubt, YMCA launches prenatal support group
KAMLOOPS — In light of uncertainty around prenatal medical service in Kamloops, YMCA BC has launched a new program in an effort to help fill the void.
The Thompson Region Family Obstetrics Clinic — which handles the majority of expectant families in the Kamloops area — has announced it will stop taking new patients with due dates after July 31.
YMCA BC says it is now offering a free, eight-week support group for parents who are expecting.
“With recent news that several prenatal care services in Kamloops are no longer accepting patients at this time, expecting parents may be experiencing additional stress and worries when it comes to their prenatal care,” said Co-Director of Mental Wellness Romina Wachholz in a news release. “We are excited to help expecting parents to work through some of those stressors and support them along their prenatal wellness journey.”
