KAMLOOPS – In honour of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, the Kamloops BCSPCA is holding a weekend-long adoption event.

All day Friday (April 28), Saturday and Sunday, all adoption fees will be 50 per cent off.

“Usually, we are not open to the public on Sunday, but Friday, Saturday, Sunday, we are open to the public to view the animals and, hopefully, find a forever friend,” said Ashley Fontaine-Ost, Senior Manager, BC SPCA Thompson-Nicola Region. “Saturday we are participating in the Brock community garage sale.”

From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Zaaz Eatery and the Kamloops Art Party will also be on the scene offering free face painting and activities for the kids.

The shelter will be accepting monetary and pet food donations at the event, but according to Fontaine-Ost, more than anything, the SPCA is hoping to showcase the adoptable animals and the work done at the shelter.

“For the first time in BC SPCA history, we have almost equal numbers of dogs in care as cats but we don’t have as much space for dogs,” she told CFJC News. “We are really hoping that we can get a lot of interest so we can get a lot of dogs and cats adopted so that we can bring the many in that are on the wait list across the province.”
