KAMLOOPS — UPDATE (3:30 p.m.): Kamloops Fire Rescue investigators are trying to determine how a fire that gutted an Upper Sahali home Thursday afternoon (April 27) started.

Firefighters were called to the home at 318 Gleneagles Drive at around 2:00 p.m. By the time the initial crews arrived, the home was fully engulfed.

Crews managed to knock down the flames within about 20 minutes.

CFJC‘s Michael Reeve reports one cat was pulled out of the home, apparently injured but alive. There is no word if anyone was injured.

The home sits next to a pathway that runs between Gleneagles Drive and Summit Drive and is surrounded by cedar hedges. On the other side of the pathway is the Orion Heights condo complex.

The fire spread through the nearby grasses, and investigators are trying to determine whether it started in the grass and spread to the home or vice versa.

Traffic was blocked off on Gleneagles Drive, complicating afternoon pickup from nearby Summit Elementary School.
