Chase man charged after discovery of stolen vehicle, prohibited gun

KAMLOOPS — A Chase man is facing charges after an RCMP call to a rural area turned out to be more than it seemed.

A Tk’emlups Rural RCMP officer was called to Pinantan-Pritchard Road on April 15 at about 9:00 a.m. after an occupied truck with no license plates was seen parked at the side of the road.

“When the officer arrived, his investigation led him to believe the vehicle was stolen and three people present were detained,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn. “As the investigation progressed, a firearm was also located and a man was arrested for related offences.”

The man was held in custody for a bail hearing and eventually released with conditions on April 25.

The two others who were detained were released at the scene.

Zachariah William Lewis, 29, of Chase is facing four charges:

• Carrying a firearm in a careless manner
• Carrying a concealed weapon
• Possessing a prohibited firearm
• Possession of a stolen truck
