In Kamloops, Eby pushes back on ‘soft on crime’ label

KAMLOOPS – Premier David Eby says he will be working with all levels of government to make communities safer.

Over the weekend, the NDP premier, who has been labelled soft on crime by his opposition, alluded to working on bail reform for the province to keep dangerous offenders off the street.

“We’re also working with the federal government on the issue of making sure our court system is working the way people expect it to,” Eby said while visiting Kamloops on Sunday (April 23). “There are multiple layers to this challenge. I have to work with city council, certainly, our provincial government and the federal government and we are all gonna have to work together to deliver results for people.”

His remarks come following months of scrutiny from BC United members. Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP Frank Caputo spearheaded a bail reform push on a federal level.
