KAMLOOPS — For many people in the Kamloops area, they spent Earth Day observing different vendors at the 46th Annual Farmers Market.

One vendor that was present is Tudor Farms. The vendor sells a variety of jams and vegetables all canned while using organic and natural ingredients. Owner Dede Bone’s creativity behind making them began to grow when she discovered a special pectin called pomona.

“When I discovered that, I went crazy putting things together,” Bone told CFJC Today. “In the beginning sometimes my craziest stuff was where I was making something but I was short a cup of fruit. I’d see what else I had and mix them together and that would create really interesting different varieties.”

Thanks to her level of creativity, it’s attracted other vendors around the market, including Kurt’s Sausages. The owner Kurt Sauter once bought Bone’s Zucchini Relish for customers to try. The feedback was nothing but positive.

“People love it, so that’s what we’re doing,” Sauter told CFJC Today. “Anybody comes up with something new we try it and if we can put it in our sausage then we will.”

The spread of Bone’s products being used by others has not stopped there. Janelle Norman is another vendor at the market who owns West End Tiny Farms. She trades her micro-greens with Bone frequently since they’re neighbours.

“We’re literally trading these high quality products literally over the fence to each other,” Norman said. “She’s got a skill I don’t have.”

The farmers market will run every Saturday until October 28.
