Losing Kate Winslet

On a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Melanie Lynskey recalled how devastating it was when she and Kate Winslet grew apart in the early days of their careers. The Heavenly Creatures costars became close friends in the 1990s after working on the film together.

When the pair “lost touch” later on, the Yellowjackets actress said, “It was more heartbreaking than some breakups that I’ve had.”

She continued, “It was so painful. And it wasn’t like anything happened — it’s just she became a gigantic, international movie star and she didn’t have a lot of time. And then, suddenly, she’d be in Los Angeles and not have time when I was living here.”

Lynskey added, “It just sort of gradually happened, and it happens in relationships; people kind of drift apart. But that was so painful for me.”
