City of Merritt CAO Sean Smith to depart for private sector

MERRITT, B.C. — The City of Merritt is once again on the hunt for a new chief administrative officer.

Sean Smith has informed the city he is leaving to pursue an opportunity in the private sector. His last day will be July 7, 2023.

“I am confident that this staff team and Council will continue to do great things together,” Smith said in a news release. “Know that wherever I am, I will always be rooting for you and the City of Merritt.”

Smith was promoted to the municipality’s top administrative position in August 2020. He had previously served as the city’s director of corporate services.

We greatly appreciate Sean’s dedication to making a positive difference in our community and his continuous commitment to exceptional service,” said Mayor Mike Goetz. “His hard work during and after the flood has put the City of Merritt in a position that other communities can only dream about.”
